MACROMEX INVESTS EUR 15 MILLION IN THE NEW CORSO DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Macromex, the leader in the food industry in the segment of temperature-controlled products, announces the construction of its second warehouse, Corso Distribution Center, in the town of Chitila. The cost of the investment amounts to 15 million euros and will be financed both from own funds and from a long-term investment loan offered by Alpha Bank Romania.

LOGISTICS AND DISTRIBUTION SERVICES

The new warehouse will cover an area of 10,000 square meters and will consist of the frozen storage area, the refrigerated storage area, a two-story administrative building, as well as various technical buildings. These constructions will be located on a land area of 50,000 square meters, on which a future expansion is planned.

The Corso Distribution Center will have a storage capacity of 10,500 pallets in the -24 degrees Celsius temperature area and 2,200 pallets in the refrigerated products area (0-2 degrees Celsius) with seven and three docking gates respectively through which more than 3000 IN/OUT pallets will be able to circulate daily. Also, inside the warehouse there will be areas for preparing orders to be delivered to customers, which will allow the processing of more than 800 orders daily.

The facility will be served by a parking area with more than 150 spaces, both for cars, vans and trucks, and will also be equipped with 10 fast charging stations for electric car batteries.

THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES

Corso Distribution Center will benefit from the latest logistics and IT technologies for the reception, loading/unloading and handling of goods, such as electric forklifts with Lithium-ion technology, the "pick by voice" order preparation system or the warehouse goods management system. There will also be a training and product demonstration area with food preparation facilities. Both the warehouse area and the office area will benefit from all the facilities of a good operation: dining room, changing rooms, meeting rooms, sanitary facilities, at the most modern standards.

"The fact that technological progress is a continuous, general and irreversible process is indubitable. But what differentiates the players in the macroeconomic landscape is rather the speed of adaptation to continuous change and the adoption of technology as it develops. Macromex is one of those nimble players with the skills to build in both mature and new markets, relevant products and brands, top teams and infrastructure. Thus, this investment comes naturally to meet the company's needs to ensure the highest quality standards regarding logistics and distribution services", reports Albert Davidoglu, CEO of Macromex

CONCERN FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

In terms of care for the environment, Macromex has many projects implemented, such as the selective collection of waste and its recycling, including electrical and electronic equipment, giving up the purchase of bottled water. The consumption of paper has been massively reduced by implementing an electronic system for issuing, circulating and archiving various internal documents. For over 5 years, in the warehouse in Câmpia Turzii, 30% of the electricity consumed comes from a farm of photovoltaic panels.

In the future, the purchase of electric cars and vans is being considered, which is why, at the Corso Distribution Center, 10 fast charging stations have been provided for them. Also, automatic timers for electricity economy will be used, which practically automatically cut off the electricity supply, outside of working hours, to the various lighting and air conditioning equipment. Lighting fixtures based on LEDs and the latest energy-efficient cold equipment will be used, which will ensure a 30% reduction in electricity consumption compared to the old location, although in Chitila the storage capacity will be double.

THE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY

"We found a special openness and permanent support from the local authorities and utility providers, which practically helped us to follow exactly the investment plan, especially in the current context of the pandemic. The presence of Macromex in Chitila will bring many opportunities to the locals. Macromex will also support the creation or development of complementary small businesses around the new distribution center," said Albert Davidoglu, CEO of Macromex.
